At first I thought I was seing a meteor but I have seen some in the past and they did not last this long nor end in a flash and shower of fragments and it seemed much closer. Could it also be a piece of "space junk" reentering the atmosphere?

White and after half a second it shattered in sparks of different colors, purple/pink and yellow
It appeared as a streak over my left shoulder while I was looking towards the northwest. It was travelling on a southnorth path. It first appeared as a faint trail travelling fast and it's brightness quickly quickly grew in intensity until it seemed to burst in a shower of sparks with a few colors. It all lasted not more than a second. At first I thought it might be a firework but the angle, the distance and speed were not compatible.
As mentionned above it had a tail which quickly grew in brightness until it shattered at about half it's lifespan, into a small shower of smaller fragments that fizzled in about 0.2 second
